Building A New Reality
How does the maker of the world's largest ARG get all their users under one umbrella? LumApps.
Niantic
Where does the maker of Pokémon Go, go when they need an intranet?
Niantic needed a smarter Intranet to support their rapid growth, with knowledge-worker collaboration, smart content targeting, on-boarding, brand reinforcement, and of course internal comms.
Enter LumApps. As the only intranet recommended by Google for Google Workspace, it makes sense, since Niantic began as a startup inside of Google. Once you have Google Workspace, from a technical aspect, implementing LumApps is just one more step away.
Custom Development
In order to bring their careers to their employees, we built a custom LumApps application to integrate with listings from all over the country.

Brand Design
With an extensive brand voice, we took the tone of Doty, Niantic's mascot, to give their users a truly branded experience.

Intranet Implementation
While LumApps comes with plenty of opportunities for customization, we leaned heavily into its front-end tools to set it apart from other intranet options.
Intranet Implementation
When you're dealing with employee hierarchy, workplace culture and change management though, the technical part is in some ways the easiest. LumApps is primarily a CMS. A set of templates, empty like a gaping abyss.
Niantic was Northern Ground's 6th integration of LumApps, and the value we bring is in strategic planning, deep research and requirements gathering, UX and information architecture, design and content production. It's powerful platform but it can take a lot of exploration and insight to see how that power can benefit an org like Niantic.
After rapid UX, UI design and launch for their 1,000 team members, we later built one of the first custom LumApps widgets on their SDK, for Greenhouse. Want to see it? You'll have to work there— which sounds great!
More recently, in an interesting turn, we are currently using Niantic's 8th Wall platform for our new AR projects.
